A deck off a second-floor door, over a garage, or above a walkout basement carries loads, heights and code requirements a ground-level deck never faces. Done right, it's one of the highest-value additions a GTA home can make. Done wrong, it's a serious safety risk. Deck Master Inc. has engineered and built elevated decks across Toronto and the GTA since 2004 — with the footings, framing and guards sized for the real load.

Walkout, raised and second-storey — what we build

Built for the load, footings to guards

Elevated decks concentrate more weight on fewer posts, so the fundamentals have to be right: footings poured below Ontario's frost line, properly sized beams and posts, code-compliant ledger attachment and flashing, and taller guards. Once a deck surface is more than about 1.8 m above grade, the Ontario Building Code requires a higher guard — and we love using frameless glass railings here because they meet the requirement while preserving the elevated view. We handle the permit and inspections so the whole structure is compliant.

Make the most of the space below

One of the best features of a raised or walkout deck is the room underneath. With an under-deck drainage or ceiling system, that space becomes a dry, shaded patio, storage, or a covered walkout lounge. We plan drainage, privacy and access from the start. Materials and finish

Elevated decks get maximum sun and weather exposure, so low-maintenance composite decking is the popular choice — no staining a hard-to-reach second-floor deck every couple of years.
